De-Stress Fest with Cheshire West and Chester Council's Libraries

18 January 2018

Cheshire West and Chester Libraries will be holding a De-Stress Fest, a week of activities to help improve your mental and physical well-being from 29 January to 2 February.

The Library Service is teaming up with a range of partners to provide something for everyone at libraries.

You’ll see the Brio team in libraries around the borough; with visits from Brio Bear, the Cheshire Change Hub and the Macmillan team based at Brio, they’ll have an array of offers available throughout the week.

Healthwatch will be on hand to hear your views, needs and experiences of health and social care in the area, and Action on Hearing Loss will be providing information for people who have hearing loss or tinnitus.  The Green Doctor Clinic will be demonstrating how you can be more energy efficient, and the Snow Angels will be promoting their services for older people.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Well-being, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “Take the opportunity to visit your local library during our De-Stress Fest and connect with other people at a coffee morning or reading group. Be active and try a Tai-Chi taster session, or join a Macmillan walk.

“It’s really important for wellbeing to keep learning and keep your brain active too; why not find out more about family or local history. Even doing jigsaws is great for stimulating your brain.

“If you’ve got lots of free time why not consider volunteering, the Library Service has information on lots of different opportunities and it’s a great way to meet new people and feel valued.” Activities include:
  • Tai Chi at Little Sutton Library
  • Qi Gong at Ellesmere Port Library.
  • Learn stressbusting techniques at Upton Library
  • Get creative and make your own De-Stress Zine at Hoole Library
  • Try complimentary therapies at Sandiway Library, courtesy of South Cheshire College students
  • Meditation at Northwich Library
  • Share your love of reading and try reading aloud at Blacon’s Story time for Adults
  • Fruity face story time at Great Boughton Library
There will also be well-being coffee mornings so come along for a coffee and a chat, reminiscence sessions, scrabble clubs, adult colouring, jigsaws and LEGO activities, Knit and Natter sessions, and much more!

Visit the Libraries Service’s web page to find a list of all the activities available, or pop into your local library.
