Cheshire West firm named in prestigious Small Biz 100
26 November 2019A custom software company from Chester has been selected as one of the Small Biz 100, the only one from Cheshire West borough.
The Small Biz 100 is a prestigious group of high performing small businesses from across the UK whose excellence is being showcased ahead of Small Business Saturday on 7 December.
Sitting proudly in this prestigious group is custom software consultancy Lisden, which is based in Chester. Since it launched three years ago, it is now working for clients all over the world designing mobile app technology and electronic devices.
The Council’s economic growth team has worked with Lisden and other small businesses across the borough in recent years to help them grow and thrive.
The team has been running marketing, exporting and business support workshops where advisors give businesses worthwhile tips and information on how to grow.
Sara Evans, development manager at Lisden, said: “I attended the workshops and they offered great advice on business marketing and development. A dilemma all small businesses face is how to grow and take on staff because it can be difficult step.
“When people think of small businesses they think of retail or making a product; I don’t think people would think about software development. I applied for Small Biz 100 because I thought it would be a good platform to show the diversity of small businesses.
“Even though you are small, you might be involved with really big projects. With tech, size is not a barrier to competing because if you have got niche expertise then you have got niche expertise.”
Lisa Harris, Director of Place Strategy at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Small Business Saturday is a great way to highlight the success of small businesses, which are a core part of our local economy in Cheshire West.
“The Council works with many of the borough’s small and medium sized enterprises to help them grow and employ more people, ultimately helping our local economy to thrive.
“Lisden is leading the way in Cheshire West as the only business to be named from our area to be part of the prestigious Small Biz 100, they are one of our growing numbers of digital businesses and the Council is eager to see this sector grow. I hope Lisden’s success will inspire other businesses to also shine in 2020.”
The Council’s markets team is supporting new businesses on Small Business Saturday, 7 December, by offering a free market stall at Northwich, Winsford and Ellesmere Port markets to new traders.
