Chester Market gets in the spirit ahead of royal visit

12 June 2018

Residents and visitors celebrating Her Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’s visit to Chester on Thursday (14 June) are being encouraged to stop by Chester Market.

Traders will be marking the special occasion with bunting galore, live music, themed food and special offers. With stalls open from 9.15am serving eat in and takeaway breakfasts there is no need to go hungry whilst you wait.

From 10am there will be live music hosted by Intuneative. Visitors will also be able to pick up British-themed goods to show support for the special day.

Councillor Brian Clarke said: “If you fancy a spot of lunch, or indeed an early tea, then there is a range of great food on offer at Chester market, including award-winning pizza, street food, and Thai, which can all be enjoyed in the new food court seating area.

“Don’t forget, those parking in the Market car park can take advantage of £1 off parking fees by visiting the market and scanning their ticket to receive the discount.

“And there’s no need to rush off when the royals have left, Chester Market will still be open to peruse everything it has to offer, from haircuts to hair extensions, from books to fishmongers. There is nowhere else in Chester with such a variety under one roof.” Many of the car parks in the city are expected to be busier than normal on Thursday. Visitors are urged to use public transport or the park and ride services which will run as usual and offer a quick and convenient route into Chester.

Thursday also marks the one year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower disaster. To remember those who died a minute’s silence will be held across the country at 12pm.

A siren will sound across Town Hall square at noon to begin a minute's silence for the Grenfell Tower disaster and again to mark the end of the silence.

Chester Market is open from 8am until 5pm, closing at 6pm every Friday throughout the month of June. It is located within The Forum Shopping Centre, with access off Town Hall Square and Princess Street.
