29 October 2020The Lord Mayor of Chester has sent condolences on behalf of the city to the people of Nice following the attack today.
Councillor Mark Williams has written to the Mayor of Nice, Monsieur Estrosi, to express sympathy.
He said: “Can I on behalf of the City of Chester, express the deepest sympathy and extend our sincere condolences to all those affected by the unspeakable attack that unfolded in Nice today.
“It is with sorrow that the City of Chester once again writes to the city of Nice offering our deepest condolences after another terrorist attack. Words cannot express what your city must be feeling in these painful hours. Today’s attacks are particularly saddening that they happened to members of the public who were taking personal time for prayer and reflection, in what should be a place of sanctuary and solitude. It must have been so terrifying for those who witnessed the attacks.
“The City of Chester stands in solidarity with the victims, their families and friends and your city. This attack was utterly intolerable and so cruel."
“Candles will be lit in Chester Town Hall in memory of those who lost their lives and were injured. We are thankful to the members of public who were quick to raise the alarm so to prevent more atrocities”.
