Lord Mayor of Chester shows his support for city centre businesses
15 July 2020The Lord Mayor of Chester has praised the city’s business owners for their work to protect customers and staff during the pandemic and help the city reopen safely.
Cllr Mark Williams thanked local and independent businesses for their resilience during a walkabout in the city centre, including a visit to Chester Market.
Cllr Williams said: “Retailers have worked really hard to introduce new measures to protect their customers and staff and it was great to have the opportunity to be able to thank those who have remained open and those that are re-opening.
“A tremendous amount of effort has gone into making shops and stores safe to be open. Everyone I met was so welcoming and pleased to share their experiences with me.
“The COVID-19 crisis has had a severe impact on our local retailers but the resilience shown by many is a credit to them.
“From what I saw, Chester is open for businesses.
“I would encourage everyone to get behind our local businesses and show them our support by shopping local as our retailers play a vital role in our city.
“I am hoping to do more days out visiting other parts of Chester, including visits to rural areas, including Malpas, Tattenhall, Kelsall etc.”
