re scam calls

Alert message sent 04/07/2017 20:08:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

There have been a number calls from residents who have had a phone call from someone pretending to be from HMRC saying that they owe money to the tax man & if they don’t pay a police officer will be around to arrest them. I have spoken to HMRC directly & they have said there a number of scams going around at present BUT HMRC will never ring people demanding money, nor will they ask for information such as bank account details, passwords etc. Please be mindful if you get a call similar to this never pass any information to them & simply just put the phone to end the call. If you are concerned please call 101 to report it & an officer (most probably me unless im off) will call round to see you, and contact action fraud on 0300 123 2040 or contact www.actionfraud.police.uk to report it online by completing a short set of questions.
