Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

We have recently seen an increase in the number of 'car and key' burglaries across Widnes. This kind of burglary involves burglars either entering the property or using some kind of extension, such as a hook through a letterbox, to find car keys before driving the vehicles away from the address.

The best way to minimise the risk of falling victim to this kind of burglary is to ensure that you always lock your vehicle and don't keep your car keys near to doors or windows, where they can be seen from outside, or in obvious places such as on hooks or in handbags.

If you have any queries about vehicle crime, Police.uk has some excellent advice around minimising the risks to your vehicle at  https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/vehicle-crime/ or you can email us at widnes.lpu@cheshire.pnn.police.uk. You can report any offences on 101 or call 999 in an emergency.
