Possible Bogus Callers - again

Alert message sent 19/12/2017 10:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello again,
I hope you are enjoying the run up to the festive period.

Please can I raise you awareness on behalf of Widnes Police about some persons calling to addresses portraying to be from a Housing Association or the Fire Service.
This particular incident was in the Halton View ward area off Bancroft Road but there could also be other potential incidents we are not yet aware of.

The callers often target elderly, vulnerable persons and we strive to get this message across to those members of the community.  This is, again, where we need your help.  Please pass the message across to friends and relatives that,  unless you are 100% sure then you should not allow the person or persons at the door to enter your home.  Often there will be some story offered by the caller as to why they would like or need to come into your home but politely decline and, where you can, re-arrange a suitable time in the future when friends, relatives or other trusted persons can be present.  Sometimes the persons visiting will wear fake uniform, carry quite realistic paperwork or other items to try and convince the occupants they are genuine.  Genuine callers will not object to and will understand your concerns and will allow you time to close the door and check via other methods that they are who they say they are.  Callers could pose as utility companies such as gas, water, electricity or housing officials or even police officers.

We want all residents to be safe and enjoy their lives no matter who or where they are and, while we do not want you to be unduly alarmed we need to raise and stimulate the issue to combat the few who prey on the vulnerable in our society.   Call us on 101 if you have any information regarding the above or any criminal or other behaviour that may alarm you or others and call 999 if it is an emergency.

If you have ANY questions, comments or need advice from us you can call us 24 hours a day and 7 days a week on telephone number 101 (call costs 15p max no matter the length of call) or you can email me and I will try to help and support as best I can.

Best Wishes to you
Stephen Marnick
