Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Good Afternoon G&T :)

I have not long spoke to a member of the public who was in distress over a phone call.

The caller claimed that her bank accounts have been frozen and that there is an issue with fraud. The caller mentioned Stockton Heath Station and said they they were going to ring her back to which they did with a case number. Luckily enough she rang her husband as this incident had really scared her, her husband was in Stockton Heath at the time so he came in.
We explained that this is a SCAM. Do not hand over any card details or personal information. Hang up the phone and block the number.
We do not say "case number" we always state "crime number".
The lady nearly fell for it as the caller was confident and mentioned the station and a case number. Please, if this happens to you don't panic as this stops you from thinking clearly. Stop, breathe and take the time to think, never hand over any information.
There are vulnerable people out there who could very well fall for this type of scam, they are counting on it. if you know someone/neighbour that could be a victim please help them let them know it is a SCAM.

thank you
