Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

There have been an increasing amount of fake £50 notes across Warrington.

Many of the retailers have fallen foul of it and for an individual discovering the red note is fake it must be gutting.

Check the security features. All £50 notes will have the following features.

- Watermark of the Queen and bright £50

- Motion thread displaying £50, (silver strip in 5 segments) through it.

- Feel of the paper is good quality not your regular photocopier paper.

- Raised print on the words Bank of England and the 50 in the bottom right.

- Ultraviolet light has to be good quality. 50 is in bright red and green.

- The five windows of the motion thread also appear in bright green in ultraviolet light.

- You will also see randomly spread bright red and green flecks on both the front and back of the note.

- Metallic thread embedded in all notes. Appears as a dark line when held upto the light.

- Print quality is clear and sharp. No blurring or pixellating.

- Microlettering under the queens image. Magnify to see in letters and numbers the value.

- Held upto the light you can see the £ symbol in irregular coloured shapes

The next issue of the note will be polymer but is not to be announced until the summer.

Retailers, if you are handed a fake note NEVER hand it back. Hold onto it and call us.
