Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Dear Resident of Chester City Centre and Newtown,

Some of the work over November by the City PCSOs.

Retail Crime

Our close relationship with our City Centre Stores means that many shoplifters are being identified, detained and charged with their offences. A recent example is where one of our City Centre stores alerted us to a shoplifting of around £250.00 worth of fragrance being concealed in an individual’s shirt.  The individual left the store and when he noted that PCSO’s were in pursuit of him he ran off at speed. PCSO’s pursued the male on foot until Police officers arrived and detained the male. Stock was returned to the store and the male was charged with the offence, highlighting the importance of teamwork and communication.

As we come into the busy festive period we will rely on our communication and close relationships with CCTV operatives, store detectives and store staff to keep shoplifting to a minimum.

Newtown

PCSOs have been giving extra patrols in the Newtown area after reports of drug dealing activity, with information from the residents group, males were stopped and drugs seized.
We also, with funding were able to offer CCTV cameras to deter crime in the alleyways of the area.
PCSOs attended the Tree of Joy switch on following the Covid-19 Guidelines, brilliant effort by the locals on Black Diamond Park!

If you don't already, get following us on Facebook, Chester City Police can give you daily alerts of what is going on, when surgeries are on and day to day work of PCSOs.

ASB

We have been working with Global Security in relation to ASB with youths at the Chester Bus Interchange. By providing visibility this has reflected in less incidents.

A male saw fit to cause ASB in in the City, after several approaches and advice from PCSOs the male continued to shout, swear and insult and was given a dispersal notice, the male refused to follow the dispersal and was then arrested for a breach of the order. Behaviour such as this impacts the residents, workers and visitors to our City and will not be tolerated.

It’s almost Christmas and from the crowds in the City this weekend we are pleased to be running operation momentum to ensure the City is kept safe, to detect and deter ASB and crime by having more patrols over this period.

Schools

Chester City PCSOs visited the Queens School where we were monitoring parking during collecting pupils from school at the end of the day, this allowed us to engage with pupils, staff and parents delivering the safer roads message.

PCSO Eva Williams

Over November we continued to patrol in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Regulatory Services and Community Safety Wardens and view how to problem solve with different approaches and powers.
