Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Please be vigilant as I have heard of phone scams in our area.
Do not give your 4 Pin to anyone over the phone even by tapping it out on your telephone key pad.
Do not take out money and hand it to someone claiming to be from your bank or Police for safe-keeping.
Do not transfer money even if the person over the phone states it's for fraud reasons.
The bank or the Police will not send someone for your cash, PIN, payment card or cheque book even if you are a victim of fraud.
The bank or Police will not ask you to purchase goods using your card and to hand them over for safe keeping.

If you believe someone has tried to defraud you over the telephone wait at least 5 minutes before trying to ring back out as scammers can stay on the line and further try to scam you.
Try to use another phone if possible.
If you only have one phone call someone you know so that you know the line is free.
The number on your display can be altered so do not trust someone that says this is they're number.

These are clever crimes and ANYONE can fall for them so extra vigilance is needed.
