Scam Alert

Alert message sent 05/03/2021 13:13:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
please see below information from Halton Trading Standards of a recent scam being circulated.

Emails about products you’ve never ordered
Halton Trading Standards has seen a rise in the number of consumers who have been receiving email conformations for products they have not ordered.
We accept everyone likes something free (especially in this case of a mobile phone that retails at +£700). The scammers realise this too, hence why the product confirmation email is for an expensive mobile phone and not toilet rolls etc. These emails are just another attempt by scammers to steal your personal and banking details.
This scenario very much falls into the ‘if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is’ category.
Top tip: Think, if I have not ordered it, should I really be receiving it?

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
