Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Dear Resident

This letter is to make you aware of a suspicious incident that occurred on McLaren Street, Crewe on Tuesday 27/04/2021. A male attended a property on Mclaren Street claiming to have been sent by environmental services to cut down a dangerous tree in the back garden of the property.
The male removed part of a tree and charged a significant sum for the work carried out. The male was dressed in a uniform and initially appeared to be legitimate.
It soon became clear that the work carried out by the male was not necessary and he left the property with a sum of money paid to him by the property owners and failed to give a receipt.
The male is described as wearing a dark green polo shirt, which had orange writing on the front and spoke in a non-local accent. He was driving a black pick-up style truck.
In an effort to ensure this is an isolated incident, we would ask you not to accept work from your doorstep from any rogue traders. Always check for identification and if you feel that they are not legitimate please report the incident to 101 with as much information and detail as possible.
If you have seen any suspicious persons, vehicles or have any other information, please contact us on 101 referring to this letter or call in to Crewe Police Station between 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-6pm on Sunday.
Your call will be dealt with in complete confidence and the information you supply may help us to further reduce burglary and other offences in your area.
Your local beat officers are:
PC 5982 Will du Randt
PCSO 21618 Jess Street
PCSO 20609 Victoria Moulton
Thak you for time
