Policing the Creamfields event

This email contains important information in relation to the policing of the Creamfields music festival, which takes place from Thursday 26 August to Sunday 29 August 2021.

Throughout the weekend, Cheshire police will be here for you with a dedicated team of community officers addressing specific concerns of residents and dealing with any community policing issues arising directly from the event.

Over the weekend it will be ‘business as usual’ within the local policing areas of Warrington and Runcorn, so the dedicated team of community officers is above and beyond the normal service that residents would receive.

We have not been able to hold a community focus group, as in previous years, due to the COVID pandemic, however the local policing units have been engaging where possible with the local residents, and any feedback received has been considered to help shape our policing approach at this event.

Our main priorities are to ensure the safety of festival goers and to minimise disruption for residents during the event. 

As with any large-scale event, we anticipate some level of disruption for residents, particularly on roads in the local area. However, we want to reassure residents that we will be doing all we can to minimise any impact.

We will take positive action regarding crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour and we will work alongside other agencies to resolve any traffic or noise issues.

A phone line will again be set up by the event organisers and residents who have any concerns arising directly from the event (noise, litter, traffic issues etc) can call the number.

Residents can rest assured that we will take robust action against anyone who is found to be breaking the law or causing a nuisance in the local community.

Ticket holders are being urged to be mindful of the fact that the site lies in a residential area and to be respectful towards neighbouring properties as they enter and leave the site.


Alcohol Free Zones

Festival goers are also being reminded that the area around the site is an ‘Alcohol Free Zone’ and this means that the drinking of alcohol in the street outside the event will not be tolerated.

Police will take positive action against anyone found to be breaking the rules.

Alcohol will be confiscated and appropriate action will be taken.


Anti-social behaviour

This will not be tolerated. Officers will be utilising powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 to deal with anyone causing a nuisance to the local community.

Through dispersal powers, officers can issue an individual or group with a direction to immediately leave a particular area for a period of up to 48 hours. Failure to comply with this will lead to arrest and possibly a prison sentence.


Road congestion

This year’s event opens on Thursday 26 August and the majority of festival goers are likely to be heading for the site throughout Thursday and leaving on Monday morning.

These are the times when residents can expect some congestion on local roads.

This year sees the return of South Gate 2 (Formally known as the VIP entrance gate) located on Daresbury Lane, which could result in an increase in traffic around this area.

A detailed traffic management plan has been produced by the organisers of the event in consultation with Cheshire police to deal with the increased traffic over the weekend.

Festival goers will be advised to use junction 11 or 12 of the M56 and to follow the signs, which will be clearly marked along the route, to the site.

They will also be advised not to use their sat navs and to stick to the official route.


Feedback

After the event, we will again be seeking feedback from local residents in relation to the policing of the event and we would welcome any views that you might have.

There will be a community debrief between the police, organisers and community leaders after the event.

This is being staffed by the organisers of the event in the build-up and throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
  • Monday 9th to Wednesday 25th August, 8am – 8pm.
  • The line will be operational 24 hours from Thursday 26th until 8pm on Monday 30th August.
  • The line will open 8am – 8pm on Tuesday 31st August and Wednesday 1st September.
