Scam Alert

Alert message sent 01/09/2021 17:44:00

Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
please see the below information from Halton Trading Standards.
Warning: Scam National Lottery emails
Halton Trading Standards wish to warn consumers of scam emails claiming to be from the National Lottery.
The email claims that they need to charge the recipient £2 to process and ship a gift card. This is simply a excuse to obtain the recipients bank and personal details.
The email has all the hallmarks of a scam, the email address is clearly not from the National Lottery. The email also places a deadline to claim the gift card, to put pressure on the recipient to make a quick decision.
If you receive an email similar to this then simply delete it. This is a case of the old adage, ‘If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is’.

If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
