Arts for older people

Wearpurple Arts

Wearpurple Arts is run by Age UK Cheshire and is supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council. The project gives people over the age of 50 the opportunity to work with professional artists to learn new skills and gain confidence in their creative abilities.

Wearpurple believes that participation within the arts has a positive effect on peoples well being. The arts help to raise peoples self esteem, confidence and motivation and these experiences have wider reaching benefits in the everyday lives of the people involved.

Since the project started in March 2001, Wearpurple has employed artists of various media to work with local groups, individuals, day care centres and residential homes across the Borough, resulting in a wealth of new work.

Dance to health

Cheshire Dance deliver a range of dance activities across the borough for older people which include regular weekly classes, (currently in Neston and Northwich), projects (including intergenerational projects and sessions for people with Alzheimer’s and their carers) and in October 2015 they are launching a Dance and Falls prevention programme called ‘Dance to Health’. Dance to Health sessions will be fun, creative and use the two evidence-based falls prevention programmes, Otago and FaME, which reduce falls by up to 55%. Sessions take place twice a week in Blacon and Castle (Northwich).
